How to Keep Your New Year's Resolution

Happy New Year! With the new year comes New Year’s resolutions. Many people use the month of January to set goals for themselves and the most common ones are working out more or losing weight. While these goals are important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, it is also important to achieve them appropriately. Unfortunately, most people give up on these resolutions within a couple months because of loss of motivation or because of an injury. You can beat the statistics by following the tips we have listed for you below!

Be realistic when setting your goals. If you haven’t worked out or been in a gym for months or even years, it would be difficult to achieve a goal of working out 7 days a week. It would be more achievable if you started at 2-3 times a week to get your body used to the physical activity so you don’t get burnt out and lose your motivation. Over time, you can begin to increase your frequency so your body can adjust accordingly.

Be open and honest. Don’t be afraid to talk about your resolutions with family or friends. They can help motivate you or even become a work out partner. Sharing your progress and goals with friends or family can help keep you motivated and they can help keep you accountable.

Don’t give up! Creating new habits can be challenging, but don’t give up! Remember that you are human and setbacks can happen. If you miss one or two of your scheduled workouts, don’t beat yourself up. Instead, accept your setback and let it motivate you to work even harder the next week.

Reward yourself. When setting your goals, remember to include rewards along the way. This doesn’t mean eat a tub of ice cream in one sitting after a workout. You could reward yourself with new workout gear after beating your mile run record. Rewarding yourself will help keep you motivated!

Good luck with your goals! Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not only beneficial to your physical health, it can also help you thrive in your work space, personal relationships, and mental health. Most importantly it can help you feel strong and good about yourself!
